a. Pre-slaughter:

i. The animal should be given water to drink before being slaughtered
ii. The animal should be facing the Qibla – Kabbathullah (Mecca)
iii. The animal should not be kicked or abused
iv. The animal should not see blood or other animals being slaughtered
v. The animal should not be stunned or any paralytic means will not be utilized.

b. During-slaughter:

i. The slaughter should be done by a practicing sane Muslim Male or Female.
ii. The Muslim should be qualified and have experience in slaughtering animals.
iii. The Muslim will use a very sharp and clean sterilized knife, the knife should be
cut by its sharp edge and not by its weight.
iv. Slaughter should be done from the front side of the neck (towards the chest) and
not from the side or back of the neck.
v. The slaughtering is carried out by cutting the animal’s trachea, esophagus and
jugular veins without cutting the whole neck.
vi. The following Arabic prayer should be recited by the slaughtering person aloud
and clear “Bismillahi Allahu Akbar” – In the name of God, who is the greatest.
vii. The device utilized for slaughter cannot be an un-sharpened knife or sword, claw,
tooth, nail, and any type of saw.
viii. The organization’s inspectors/auditors/supervisors are expected to submit
documentation to the organization and its partner facility about their eye witness
of the halal slaughter, based on their witnesses the organization’s
representatives will provide the halal certificate to the partner facility.

c. Post-slaughter:

i. The animal should get enough time to bleed out completely until the animal dies
before being processed further.
ii. The halal animal carcass should not be kicked or abused post-slaughter.
